She nods as encouragingly as she's able while he talks it out. The trick to giving good advice is just to ask the right question to get the other person to make their own conclusions. Do it right, and it's like you've done nothing at all.

[keenly]

Colin pecks her on the cheek, looking renewed.

"Thank you," he says as if she was some guru he'd climbed a mountain to find. "And sorry. I know you've had bigger problems than I have, lately."

[sulahnan]

"It's not a competition," she dismisses, but smiles at the cheek-peck. Muscle memory has her unlocking her phone for the fifty-millionth time, just to continue seeing that she doesn't have any notifications. It hasn't been so long that she's made up her mind about what that means, but it's getting there.

"You're welcome."

Colin hasn't known what to tell Tessa about all that, besides that she's done the right thing because she deserves love. That doesn't keep it from hurting when someone decides you're not enough of a reason to change.

"You'll always have us," he says gently. "Your awkward Canadian brother and his high-maintenance boyfriend. That sounded comforting in my head. I'll just stop talking."

"Stop being cute or I'll barf in your shoes," she says, an empty threat. Her smile gives away how much she appreciates the sentiment. But of course, there's a difference between having your little dysfunctional found-family and having...whatever it was she and Alexios had. Have? Had. "Eugh. I'm gonna watch David Attenborough documentaries in bed until I die of this hangover."

She closes her eyes and thinks really hard about getting off the counter and walking to her room and crawling into bed...and doesn't actually do any of those things just yet because she has to come to terms with the thought of moving first.

Colin watches her flounder for a few moments. He finally grabs her by the wrist and tugs her toward her bedroom.

"Come on. I'll make you ginger tea and find you a couple aspirin."
